Five Ways Elon Musk Has Changed the Platform For Users

Elon Musk’s influence on the tech platform has been vast and far-reaching, extending to all users. His visionary leadership has brought a new level of activism and engagement that was previously unheard of. His ingenuity and creativity have redefined what is possible and set new standards for others to follow.

In just three months since Elon Musk took over Twitter’s San Francisco headquarters, the company has barely been able to stay out of the headlines, which is unprecedented in the tech world. Have a look at the Five Ways Elon Musk Has Changed the Platform for Users and how they are useful.

Twitter: Five Ways Elon Musk Has Changed the Platform For Users

In order to better serve users, Musk has changed the platform in the following five ways:

Blocking Alternative Ways to View Twitter

One of the most significant complaints users have about Twitter is that it’s difficult to find new information from new accounts. Particularly those with only a few followers or tweets.

Blocking Alternative Ways to View Twitter

Some people have resorted to using third-party apps like Tweetdeck or Tweetdeck beta to view the feed differently. Or to use hashtags like #newtweets or #trending instead of searching by name. But Musk recently blocked those options by blocking third-party apps such as Tweetdeck and Tweetdeck beta on Twitter.

There has not been an official announcement from Twitter about this yet. But popular apps like Tweetbot, Fenix, and Twitterific seem to be having difficulty.

Restoring Controversial Accounts

In the beginning, Musk focused on reopening a number of high-profile Twitter accounts. That account has previously been banned for violating Twitter’s rules under the previous regime.

Restoring Controversial Accounts

In late October, Twitter banned several controversial right-wing accounts. Including conspiracy theorist Alex Jones and Milo Yiannopoulos. Who tweeted racist comments about Leslie Jones after she criticized him in 2016. This sparked controversy among some users who argued that the bans violated freedom of speech online. While others argued that hate speech should not be tolerated on any platform.

In terms of the visual changes that were made to the timeline. One of the most noticeable ones was the order in which tweets appear in their timeline. Using a new tab, you are able to choose between tweets that are recommended by Twitter. And those that are from people you follow.

In the case of iPhone users, the platform will have two columns at the top. One marked “For You” and the other marked “Following”. You can access the home page on Android devices. Just click the star icon at the top right of the screen.

The problem is that many people do not realize it. It is not uncommon for Twitter’s “For You” feed to appear once in a while in the app automatically. The majority of users are unaware of this. Several years ago, people complained that this feed was filled with Twitter recommendations and interactions between people they follow and people they don’t know, instead of containing content they were interested in.

The reason for this is that Twitter’s algorithm has been changing. It used to be that when you first signed up for Twitter and then followed a lot of people, the app would automatically show you content from those accounts. Now, though, it doesn’t do that unless you click on the “Following” tab at the top right corner of your screen.

Twitter Blue Ticks

At the end of November, Twitter began rolling out its subscription service, Twitter Blue, after a few false starts. It has a monthly fee of $8/$11 (£6.50/£9), which gives you access to a number of bonuses including the option to edit your posts, increased visibility, and fewer ads.

Twitter Blue Ticks

Depending on what I have seen on an anecdotal basis, I believe that it has attracted a reasonable number of subscribers, but not a massive number of subscribers although to my knowledge no official announcement has been made about its success.

The subscription model has been controversial, with many people arguing that Twitter should not be charging people to use its service. However, my view is that if they want to make money from it, then it is up to users whether or not they choose to pay for the service.

Silver and Gold Ticks

A verified account was represented by Twitter’s “blue tick” before it became a sign of a subscriber. In order to confirm that the reports of hand-picked celebrities, journalists, and brands were not fake, Twitter itself awarded the award to them.

Silver and Gold Ticks

In addition to the blue ticks that some of those who received under the old regime still have, you will also see a message that explains that it is a “legacy” and that it “may or may not be noteworthy”. The fact that an account has a blue tick next to it does not necessarily indicate that it is an authoritative account.

Alternatively, brands and government figures are now rewarded with gold or silver ticks based on their status for example, Coca-Cola is now a gold-ticked account, with an explanation that it is an official business. Rishi Sunak is now a silver ticked account, and the account for the UK Prime Minister is now a gold one.
